27th October, 2020

To each member,

This is an open letter from both the chairman and treasurer of C.L.G. na nDúnaibh. As you know, we are going through a pandemic, and we want to inform all club members about what this means for our club.

When this started in March, we thought, in our innocence, as everyone did that it would last for a number of weeks and we would be back to normal. We are now into late October and more or less back to where we were in March. In the meantime we were allowed get back onto the pitch June 2020. This was hugely beneficial both for our underage players and senior players. Being able to access our grounds had huge benefits for all members.

As everyone knows a club exists on its resources. Over the years the club has gone from a green field to being two pitches, enclosed, a stand, a centre that has modern up to date facilities. On the pitch we have managers at all grades, keen to get their ideas to progress the club. Off the pitch there are always ideas to progress the club, with the roof taking priority. The club is constantly looking forward both on and off the pitch.

Since March, the club’s usual income streams have all but dried up. We had to suspend the club lotto in March, cancelled all bookings we had for event hire and had only two matches all year where a gate could be collected. The expenses associated with running the club and putting out teams have remained constant.

For a long number of years, we have relied on the club lotto to meet the bulk of our running costs. The lotto has traditionally depended upon a dedicated group of volunteers selling tickets face to face. Unfortunately, it isn’t possible for this to resume in the current context of COVID. We started an online lotto in August, however this has not been as successful as we might have hoped.

When this crisis ends, and it will, we want to be in a position to move forward.

While we are aware that the pandemic has been difficult for everyone, we are appealing to all members and supporters of CLG na nDúnaibh to do what they can to support the club’s fundraising initiatives where possible.

Member Registration

In March we suspended registration as it involved close contact. The G.A.A has extended membership until October 31st. With this in mind we would urge all members who have not paid up to now, to pay their membership fees. This can be done by putting money with your name and telephone number in an envelope and putting through either Eoin’s or Richard’s letterbox. Your telephone number allows a receipt to be forwarded.

Club Lotto

We will be introducing self-service lotto drop boxes to retail outlets in the parish over the coming weeks. This will allow local people to play the club lotto in a COVID safe manner.

Don’t forget you can already play the club lotto online at nadunaibh.ie from anywhere in the world!

National Club Draw

National Club Draw tickets are now available for sale at nadunaibh.ie, and will soon be available from club sellers.

If you are interested in selling National Club Draw tickets, please get in touch.

John F Kennedy once said “ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”. We now say “ask not what your club can do for you but what you can do for your club”.

We end by asking all members to stay healthy and stay safe.

Paddy Fenny R.I.P. always insisted the following was put on nomination papers each year. Which category are you in?

Do You Just Belong?

Are you an active member, the kind that would be missed?

Or are you just contented that your name is on the list?

Do you attend the meetings and mingle with the crowd?

Or do you stay at home and crib both long and loud?

Do you take an active part to help the club along?

Or are you satisfied to be the kind to just belong?

Do you even go to visit a member who is sick?

Or leave the work for just a few and then talk about the clique?

There is quite a programme scheduled that means success if done

and it can be accomplished with the help of every one.

So attend the club regularly and help with head and heart.

Don’t just be a member but take an active part.

Think this over member,

are we right or are we wrong?

Are you an active member

or do you just belong?
